Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) In this song, Elvis tells us his mother loved tending the roses in the garden. Do you have a green thumb? I used to have a fairly green one, but it seems to be getting a bit brown around the edges as I get older. Really, I think it's just that I am so busy these days that I often lose track of taking care of my plants.
2) Mama would put the roses in a vase in the living room. Do you have cut flowers in your home right now? No. I rarely do.
3) Elvis sings that he found Mama's rose petals pressed in the family Bible. Have you ever pressed petals in a book? If yes, what occasion were you commemorating? I pressed the first rose I ever received from a boy and Tim's boutonniere from our wedding. The first is long gone, the second is still around. You might find a few four leaf clovers tucked into a bible.
4) OK, so now we know Mama liked roses. What about you? Would you prefer white, pink, yellow or red roses? In a bouquet I like pink roses, but the roses in my yard are gorgeous orange-ish gold.
5) Elvis' own mother, Gladys Presley, had a major impact on pop culture. When her son was 11, he asked for either a rifle or a bicycle for his birthday. She deemed the rifle too dangerous and the bike too expensive, and so he chose a guitar instead. The rest is history. Tell us about a special birthday gift from your youth. The only one I remember is the wonderful special edition white and lime green Schwinn Stingray I got for my 7th birthday. I have tried and tried over the years to find a photo of one, but never have. I don't know if it was a one-of-a-kind or not. It had a sparkly lime green banana seat, lime green and white streamers (also sparkly), and lime green flowers painted on its white frame. I loved that bike!
6) Abraham Lincoln credited his stepmother, Sarah, for her lasting influence on his life, saying she ignited his love of reading and learning. Tell us about a woman -- mother, stepmother, grandmother, aunt, Godmother, teacher, neighbor -- who changed your life for the better. I've mentioned my grandmother many times and she was without doubt the biggest influence in my life. She taught me to love the natural world and to indulge my curiosity. She was also my biggest fan and believed I could do anything I set my sights on.
7) Mother's Day is almost upon us. According to the National Restaurant Association, we like to eat out on this holiday, with revenue up more than 80% on Mother's Day weekend. When did you last dine at a restaurant? Was it a special occasion? We ate out earlier this week. No special occasion. The whole family is going out for dinner on Mother's Day, though.
8) Candles are a big seller for Mother's Day, too. What's your favorite candle scent? Yankee Candle's MacIntosh.
9) Sam is celebrating Mother's Day with her mother's favorite, Hershey Bars. Would you prefer classic milk chocolate, dark chocolate or chocolate with almonds? Milk chocolate, please?
I'm off to our second craft show in a week and will catch up with everyone afterward. Have a wonderful Saturday and please, join in the Saturday 9 fun here.
I had a pink/white Schwinn Hollywood coaster bike. I loved it so! It was alternately a horse or a motorcycle. I had that one until I was big enough for a two-speed, and by then a bike was just a bike. Another craft show! You and your daughter are on a roll.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a beautiful weekend and a happy Mother's Day. ☺
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I got bicycles one spring when I was about 10 and she was 9. Or maybe I was 9 when we got them. Banana seats and baskets on the handlebars. I loved riding up and down the hill in front of our house.
ReplyDelete#3 My mother used to press four-leaf clovers
ReplyDelete#5 I have a Columbia bicycle, 2-Speed that I burned out the brakes coming down a mountain near my home.
#8 News reports have them closing the factory in Massachusetts and moving it to the south. How can it be Yankee Candles when they are made elsewhere?
Hope the craft show goes well. I thought about a bike, but I am fairly sure both of my bikes came from Santa, not my birthday.
ReplyDeleteHi Stacy, you made me think of a banana seat bike I got when I was 14. I worked all summer at a toy store and bought the bike. My brother took it for a ride and left it out. The bike was stolen. But it was a fun bike to ride! Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteMy sisters and I had to share a banana seat bike for a few years. I think my older sisters came to blows about whose turn it was to ride it and my dad bought us our own second hand bikes.
ReplyDeleteYour Yankee Candle scent sounds like one I could enjoy, too. Hope you had good sales today!! Your bike sounds amazing!! Happy Mother's Day, Stacy!! Enjoy your meal out with the fam!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I have to find that candle! It sounds perfect!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could attend the craft shows with y'all. You're making such lovely items.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day! 😎
