The Wednesday Hodgepodge: Back to School

I'm linking up with the Wednesday Hodgepodge today to talk about "back to school."

1. August is National Back To School Month...how does that make you feel? Share a back-to-school memory.  Since I gave up driving a school bus and my kids are grown with kids of their own, back to school doesn't really bring about much change in my life. It does bring the shift in my thinking to fall, though.

This year might be a bit bittersweet since our grandson, who lives next door and is a daily part of our lives, starts kindergarten. Also, depending on how things go with our daughter's work and me finding a job, I may be the one either getting him on or off the bus. I hope he has a good experience with school.

As an only child who always lived in rural areas until my teens, I loved school when I was a kid. I also liked getting there. The first couple of years of my school career I rode to another district with my mom because she was the librarian there. I still remember all the talking and singing we did.

2. Something you've learned in 'the school of life'?  You have no control over what anyone else says or does. All you have control over is how you respond to it.

3. Three words to describe your current mood.  Thoughtful. Relaxed. Motivated.

4. A summer food you've eaten too much of/are tired of? A summer food you haven't had enough of?  I haven't had too much of any summer food and I haven't had enough of corn-on-the-cob, fresh cantaloupe, tomato sandwiches, and White House ice cream.

5. What small stuff do you sweat that you know you shouldn't?  When my husband uses something and then just leaves it and doesn't put it back. I know it doesn't matter, but it just drives me nuts like nothing else.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I've lost my mind and decided my mom, our daughter, and I should have a garage sale (not this coming weekend, but the next one). I'm really trying to make hard decisions and get rid of a lot of stuff. I'm tired of clutter. I guess I've become that older person ahead of schedule and I'm getting rid of stuff. Giving it to family, selling it, donating it. I'm just tired of....stuff.

Have a good one!

  1. I understand and I need to get rid of the clutter too. I've done some, but not nearly enough.

  2. I smiled at your back-to-school memory. So glad you were happy to go to school. I am glad you're feeling relaxed too.

  3. I have been busy decluttering too! Although, I will probably be looking for the stuff I have donated in a week or two...

  4. lol-that meme about washing the shirt! Your post made me realize I haven't had any canteloupe at all this summer. I need to buy one!

  5. How is it possible Colton's already starting kindergarten?! The last garage sale I did threatened my sanity. But having your mom and daughter help should make it fun -- sort of.

  6. I've given up on de-cluttering. It will be here for my kids to sort out someday. For now I will just enjoy what I've got. So much of my stuff has memories attached; they were gifts or were inherited. There are moments when I wish I could start over with a clean slate, but then I know I'd see something that reminded me of what I got rid of and I'd miss it. So just stop sweating it and enjoy it. Corn on the cob...I want some now. We did have some in May. That's when it is fresh here. Cantaloupe, I try to buy every week if they look good enough. We haven't had many good fresh tomatoes this summer. I have missed that. I may have to grow some next year. I love your childhood memories of riding to school with your mother. That sounds really sweet. My memories of going to school are fuzzy. I think I rode with my mother most of the time, but there were four of us kids, and I honestly don't remember it much. We rode the bus home quite often until I was old enough to stay after school for cheerleading practice or I went home with a girlfriend until my mother got off work. Funny how memories begin to fade as we age...only the really significant events come back to our minds...good and bad. LOL. But I'm a lot older than you. I have a lot more stuff stuck in my head. LOL. Have a great rest of your week.

  7. Clutter. Oh my! We got rid of so much when we moved five years ago and now, when I look around - good grief. Keep us posted on how you do! I might get motivated!!
