Thankful Thursday

It's time once again to list just a few of the things I've been thankful for this week.

This week's blessings:

* Mom poured boiling water on her hand. I'm not sure how, but when I saw it the day after it looked like her hand, wrist, and a bit beyond that were deeply bruised. She confessed to the water incident after I asked and tried to brush it off. She didn't see a doctor, but it has stopped hurting and is now peeling. It could have been much worse. I'm thankful it wasn't.

* Our daughter and her family are all finally over the flu and healthy again...and no one else has come down with it.

* My boss told me today that she is still honoring my requested vacation time in July. It won't be paid time off and I won't get the bonus, but I can live with that. I was worried as I had to use all my PTO time plus get the FMLA leave last month to take care of our daughter's children when she was unable to.

* On Saturday Tim and our son-in-law started cutting up the logs from the Poplar that we had cut down back in November. They hauled one trailer load to our daughter's friend for summer bonfires. Our son-in-law has someone else to take the rest once they get it cut up. They worked on it again tonight. Tim also started cutting up the apple tree that blew over one windy day. It's been too windy to work on these projects (or raining) up until this past week.

* My tailbone was only sore for a couple of days following getting knocked down by a client last Thursday. No serious damage.

* I got my Walmart order placed tonight so I can pick it up after work tomorrow and not have to deal with it over the weekend.

* My stepdad has finally agreed that he should go to a rehabilitation facility for a while before coming home. He still needs a lot of care and it would be too much for Mom to deal with. The only bad part is the facility both he and Mom want him to go to is over an hour away, but provided they have room for him it's the best choice health-wise. It has a 73% success rate (success being patients going home and not going to the hospital or dying in the first 31 days). All of the other choices had much, much worse ratings.

Of course there is much more I'm thankful for, but I have to stop somewhere and it's time to head to bed. Have a blessed day tomorrow!

  1. It is so sad that rehab facilities aren't at 100% with their success rates! Family members have to remain vigilant and visit regularly. I had to threaten legal action to get my grandmother out of a rehab that had her so drugged up she would never walk again. They relented and released her. She went in after a hip replacement on one medication. They had her on 11 pills. The hospital had her walking the day of her surgery. The rehab place had her in a wheelchair all day. Got it sorted and am leary of those places, no matter the ratings. Be vigilant and ask lots of questions (but I don't have to tell you that, just had to say it).

  2. Oh wow, I'm glad your mother's hand wasn't hurt worse. That was a nasty burn, I am sure. Oh, glad you can still get your vacation time. And I hope your step father will be able to go to the rehab place that is best. I know some people have had some real horror stories from the bad ones. Thankfully we have not had to experience that. The place where my MIL went (and stayed until she passed at age 95) was very good and she loved it there. I do hope he won't have to stay there for long. I didn't know about you being knocked down at work. I'm way behind in reading. I'm glad you weren't seriously injured. Gosh...we just never know, do we? So glad your daughter is doing better, and I will continue to pray for her and her family and all of you. ((((HUGS)))
