Saturday 9: Beautiful Day

Beautiful Day (2000)

Unfamiliar with this week’s song? Hear it here.

1) This song is about finding joy in an imperfect world. What brings you joy today?  Having nothing in particular to do and nowhere I have to go with a winter storm on the way.

2) The lyrics mention being stuck in traffic. A poll of Boston commuters revealed that drivers have a variety of responses to be stuck in traffic — everything from bored to impatient to angry. How do you feel when you’re stuck in a traffic jam?  Sometimes I'm impatient, but mostly I'm just bored.

3) This year Bono and his wife, Ali, celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Who is the longest-married couple you know?
Friends of mine have been married for 52 years. They were only 18 when they got married.

4) When Bono inducted Frank Sinatra into the Grammy Hall of Fame, he complimented Frank on his “swagger.” Do you think you have “swagger?”
Hahahahaha! That would be a BIIIIIIIG no.

5) When U2 guitarist The Edge did a charity concert at the Sistine Chapel, he became the first rocker to perform there. If you were to travel to Rome, what sites would you be certain to visit?  Um, I want to see alllllll of it! Vatican City probably tops the list, though.

6) This w
eek’s song was chosen because St. Patrick’s Day is coming up, and U2 is one of Ireland’s most famous exports. What else is Ireland famous for?   Potatoes, corned beef, Guiness, leprechauns...

7) Corned beef and cabbage is a traditional St. Patrick’s Day dish. Is it a favorite of yours?
Yes, it is. We have it every year on St. Patrick's Day and if it wasn't such an expensive meat I'd have it all year round. Love it!

8) St. Patrick is credited with driving snakes out of Ireland. Ophiophobia is the fear of snakes. Do you suffer from ophiophobia?  Very much so. My eyes are on the ground during warm weather walks in the woods...or fields...or water's edge...or any other place a snake might be.

9) St. Patrick’s Day fantasy: A leprechaun will share his gold with you, but you must request a specific amount for a single item. How much would you ask for, and what would you buy?
I'd ask for $250, 000 to buy my dream home.

Thanks goes to Sam at Saturday 9 for the music and questions!

  1. I just realized I had not changed to your new blog address. I thought you were not posting because I was behind too. Busy. Your can barley buy a 1 bedroom apartment for that price you listed. That is based on the California market. Houses in my area are going to $600,000 and they are small in the city. Yes meat is expensive. I might make my version of beef and cabbage. I am teaching Bible journaling that day. Enjoy your weekend!

  2. Your answer to #1 could be mine!

You make me want to try corned beef and cabbage.

  3. I enjoyed your answers. Happy early St. Patty's Day. Please save some corned been for me, yum.

  4. Right there with you on the corned beef. It's a huge favorite around here year around. It is expensive, but at least we get 2 or 3 meals out of one of them. So, when you look at it that way....

  5. I usually get my corned beef and cabbage by eating a Reuben sandwich on St. Pat's Day but I do like corned beef and love cabbage. I enjoyed my visit here today! xo

  6. I don't know if I'll have corned beef. Maybe.

  7. I'd have no idea HOW to swagger. That doesn't sound like a particularly admirable trait, does it? Oh, if wishes were horses, I'd love to have enough to pay off our mortgage -- with enough left over to dine out whenever we (me) would like.

  8. My eyes are always on the ground too. It is funny to think I played in the woods all of the time as a kid and never saw a snake...I am sure they were there...but I see them in my yard all of the time. *shivers* Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

  9. That wouldn't buy a very big house here, either, though it would be a decent sized home. Now I am curious as to what your dream house is.

  10. Grinning over the last one...yep, I front your pain sister, lolol...meaning...yep, same here.

  11. Corned Beef was something my mother made every year to honor the day, and her Black Irish ancestors who were actually Scottish. lol
And, Leprechauns.. Of Course! Have a lovely "snow day", Madame.

  12. #7 It is ironic that corn beef is so expensive when you consider that corn beef started out using inferior cuts of beef like, rump and bottom round.

Thankful Thursday

Can you believe we are already at the end of September? Where have the days gone?! It seems like it was just yesterday that we were counting...
