We began the weekend on Friday evening with dinner from a local firehall's fish fry. 'Tis the season (Lent) and fish fries are huge fundraisers for a lot of fire departments and Catholic churches. We'd never gotten fish from this particular firehall and were surprised at their full menu, Chick-Fil-A type drive-up lines, and how quickly it all went. We were thankful for that because the lines were LONG!
We both ordered the huge fish sandwich. Tim ordered fries and coleslaw with his and I had pierogies and haluski with mine. Everything was very good. We will probably be enjoying their sandwiches throughout Lent.Tim didn't work Saturday in an effort to cut down on fuel expenses (it currently costs $187 to fill up his truck!). We'd excpected a quiet morning at home, but Megan wasn't feeling well and asked if the kids could come over. Of course we said yes and the weather was gorgeous, so we took them to a local park and to McDonald's for Happy Meals.
I had to sit with a woman whose companion I cover for every now and then for the rest of the day. I didn't get home from that until 9:00.
Sunday morning the kids were over for their pancake breakfast with Pappy. Sometimes I eat with them, but skipped it today. I just wasn't in the mood for anything that heavy. They were only here for breakfast and left just before I left for church.
Church was very good yesterday. The pastor ended up giving only a small portion of his sermon because some other men who stood to speak a bit ended up giving very powerful and moving mini-sermons. We are so blessed in that for a small church, we have at least 8, wonderful, godly men who are capable of preaching the Word accurately with the leading of the Holy Spirit.
One of those men spoke about the Ukraine. Sharing some powerful stories that have come out from missionaries he knows over there. He also shared a list of prayer requests that come straight from those on the ground in the Ukraine.
- God to redeem this situation by drawing many people to Himself.
- Ukrainians to put their hope in Jesus, not diplomacy or the government.
- A quick end to the war and hostility.
- Political disagreements to not lead to further hatred and violence.
- Unity and love that supersedes the problems between countries, especially for families on both sides of the border.
- Safety and peace for the wives and children of soldiers.
- The various world leaders involved in diplomacy over Ukraine.
- The evangelical church to remain united, even as it faces difficult questions.
- A continued commitment from Ukrainian believers to take the gospel message to Russia and beyond.
- Christians in the military, that God would guide them as their faith is tested in new ways.
- Believers to have opportunities to share the hope they have in Christ.
That fish fry sounds so great! I wish we had something like that out here. I am glad you had a good experience at church and got to spend time with your grandchildren. That is always such a blessing. Enjoy watching the new West Side Story with your clients. I would like to see the new version. Haven't yet. Hope your week goes well. See you again soon.
ReplyDeleteHope you all have fun today with your movie and popcorn day. It's raining here and a little cooler today too.
ReplyDeleteOh that fish supper sure sounds good. I don’t know if there’s anything like that here or not. I may have to check. I am so happy you are enjoying your new church and are already encouraging others there by your own faith. I’ve been wondering about the little niece who was staying with your daughter. Is she still there? I’ve been praying for her situation. Hope you have a wonderful with your clients today. Also thank you for the prayer list for Ukraine. We are definitely keeping that whole situation in our prayers. Praying for God to intervene before it gets so much worse. Take care and be blessed 😊
ReplyDeleteShe wasn't with them last week as my daughter had several medical appointments so it was easier for her to stay with her grandparents. She is supposed to be back with them tomorrow, but no one knows how it will go. That family is so messed up about priorities. They worry about everything but what's best for the little girl. It makes my daughter so angry, but she doesn't have any legal rights. She'd love to turn her brother-in-law in, but they don't want the girl to go into the foster system.
DeleteI wish there was a similar Lenten initiative (fish fry) around here! So many heartbreaking stories coming from the Ukraine; it's good to see the individual grass-roots movements gaining support. Just this morning I ran to Tractor Supply and bought all their sunflower seeds packets to give away at Bible study. The fella behind me was puzzled why, but when I explained it symbolizes the resistance he started 'going off' about our government. Then the cashier chimed in. Good times, lol.
ReplyDeleteI caught Dirty Dancing on tv Friday night and thought of you. :)
ReplyDeleteAnother fun weekend for y'all! Love the pics.
ReplyDeleteWe are praying for the innocent people in Ukraine and Russia. Both have wicked governments like ours. I feel for them.
Blessings. xx
The Fish Fry menu looks very good and the prices too! The grands are so cute and I'm sure they loved being at your home for breakfast. I like the prayer points you shared for Ukraine and Russia. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteThe fish fries are in full swing here, too. Prayers lifted for the people and war in the Ukraine. That is a good prayer list - thanks for sharing. Have a good week, Stacy!
